In 2016, we started a group called Brand New Congress. Our goal was to recruit over 400 candidates to run for Congress all at once in a big national campaign. As Rachel Maddow put it, we wanted to run a 400-headed Presidential campaign. We thought it could make sense that if a big team of new leaders took office, and they were motivated to work together to solve our biggest problems, we could actually get somewhere.
There were a lot of new elements to this idea, and we didn’t end up getting anywhere near recruiting 400 candidates. In this episode, we go back to talking about whether we still need to do it though. Or is it enough to just elect strong candidates that can push the party’s leaders where we need to go?
